AI phone ordering for UK restaurants

The phone rings mid-service. HungerCall picks up.

HungerCall takes the order or table booking, prices it from your own menu, texts a payment link and prints the kitchen ticket.

You keep your own phone number and divert calls to HungerCall.

How HungerCall handles the details

  • Priced from your menu

Totals are worked out from your own price list, not by the AI.

  • Card payments on Stripe

Customers pay on Stripe’s secure page. Online orders reach you once paid.

  • Tickets print in your kitchen

If the printer is offline, tickets wait in the queue.

  • Set up with you

We set up your menu, number and agent. You divert your phone.

What HungerCall does

From the first ring to the kitchen ticket

HungerCall handles the phone work while your team gets on with service. Every order it takes appears on your tablet dashboard and prints in your kitchen.

  • Picks up when you’re busy

Divert your calls when nobody answers, when the line is busy, or all of them, and keep your own number. Staff answer what they can; HungerCall answers the calls you divert to it.

  • Priced from your own menu

Every line is priced from your own menu, and the system works out the total, not the AI. If a dish needs a choice, it asks the one question that settles it.

  • Payment link by text

Customers get a text with a link to pay by card on Stripe’s own secure page, and one reminder if they haven’t finished. Online orders only reach your kitchen once payment is confirmed.

  • Kitchen tickets that print

Orders print as kitchen tickets, marked paid or not paid, with allergies and special requests in a box of their own.

  • Table bookings by phone

Callers book a table by phone and get a confirmation text, then a reminder about an hour before. Each booking goes in your calendar and prints a slip for the kitchen. It saves a booking if the time is inside your dining-room hours; it does not check table availability.

  • Recordings and support cases

Play back recent calls with their transcript, behind a PIN of its own. Complaints become support cases for your manager, and the agent is set up never to promise a refund.

During service

Your team keeps cooking while HungerCall picks up

Keep the number your customers already ring. Divert it to HungerCall and your staff can stay with the counter, the kitchen and the people in front of them.

  • Keep your own number. Divert it when you’re busy, when nobody answers, or for every call.
  • Callers just say what they want. It asks one question at a time, and a change of mind replaces the item.
  • After you close for the night it says so politely. From 8am it can take a pre-order for when you open.

On a landline you dial the divert codes yourself. On a mobile or internet line, you set the divert in your provider’s app.

Payment

Online orders are paid before they’re cooked

Once the order is agreed, the customer gets a text with a link to pay by card. Online orders only reach your kitchen once the payment is confirmed. Customers who would rather pay when they collect can do that too.

  • Card payments happen on Stripe’s own secure checkout page, opened from the link in the text.
  • Online orders reach your kitchen only after Stripe confirms the payment.
  • The customer sees every charge itemised, including a small online service charge, before they pay.
  • If they don’t finish paying they get one reminder text, and your team is told when an order is given up on.

Orders paid at collection go straight to the kitchen, marked as not yet paid.

The dashboard

Every order and booking, on one tablet

The dashboard runs in your tablet’s browser: every phone order and table booking in one place, with the tools your manager needs around them.

  • Each order shows its items, notes and payment status; each booking shows the guests, time and any special request.
  • Kitchen tickets print with any allergy or special request in a boxed note. If the printer can’t be reached, tickets queue and are retried.
  • Call recordings and transcripts sit behind their own PIN, even for someone already signed in.
  • Complaints become support cases for your manager, and the offers you switch on are applied to the total.

The dashboard needs an internet connection. Printing needs your printer connected to HungerCall.

How it works

Three steps from your menu to the kitchen ticket

HungerCall does the set-up with you. Then you divert your phone, and the orders it takes arrive as kitchen tickets.

  1. Step 1: We set it up with you

Your menu and prices, a phone number for your assistant and the connection to your kitchen printer are all set up together with you.

Every kitchen is a little different, so we agree the details with you.

  2. Step 2: You divert your phone

Keep the number your customers already ring and divert it to HungerCall: when you’re busy, when nobody answers, or for every call.

On a mobile or internet line, the divert is set in your provider’s app.

  3. Step 3: Orders arrive as kitchen tickets

Each order prints in your kitchen and appears on your tablet. Online orders arrive once they’re paid.

If the printer can’t be reached, tickets queue and are retried.

Pricing

One monthly price, then a small charge per order

You pay £49 a month, plus a flat charge for each order HungerCall takes. The order charge covers the first 5 minutes of the call and isn’t a share of what your customer spends; table bookings, other calls and texts are charged separately.

  • Silent and nuisance calls are not charged.
  • Every charge is listed with its working, so you can check it.

Can I keep my own phone number?

Yes. Your customers keep ringing the number they already know, and you divert calls to the number we set up for the assistant. You choose when: if your line is busy, if nobody answers, or for all calls.

We suggest starting with ‘busy’ and ‘no answer’, so your team answers what it can and the assistant takes the calls you send to it. On a landline the divert is a short dialling code; on a mobile or internet phone line you set it up in your provider’s app.

How long does set-up take?

We set it up with you, so we don’t quote a fixed timescale. Our part is your menu, the assistant, its phone number and linking your kitchen printer to your account. Your part is diverting your restaurant’s phone and having a printer and a tablet ready. We go through the details with you.

What happens when the assistant can’t help?

While you’re open, the assistant puts the caller through to your team, by a real phone transfer to a number you choose. That covers anything it can’t confirm, such as ingredients or today’s availability, and an order that has already been saved, which it won’t change or cancel itself.

If nobody picks up, it takes a message and saves it as a case for your manager, without promising a callback. When you’re closed there is nobody to put the call through to, so it tells the caller you’re closed and ends the call.

What about allergies?

If a caller mentions an allergy, the assistant is set up to write it into the order, and it is printed in the kitchen-note box on the ticket. The dashboard tags orders whose note reads like an allergy. That is a keyword match, so keep your usual allergy checks in the kitchen.

HungerCall holds no allergen information, so the assistant never guesses whether a dish is safe. If a caller asks, it puts them through to your team while you’re open. It records what the caller tells it; it doesn’t check it.

What happens when I’m closed?

It depends on the time of day and on the opening hours you set. From 8am until you open, the assistant tells callers you’re closed but can take a pre-order for a time it has checked, and table bookings.

After you close for the night and before 8am, it politely says you’re closed and ends the call: no order, no booking and no message. While you’re closed it doesn’t put callers through to staff or promise a callback.

What does HungerCall cost?

£49 a month, plus per-use charges for the calls and texts it handles.

An order is £2.00, which covers the first 5 minutes of the call, then 50p for each further minute started, and a table booking is £3.00 on the same basis. Other calls, such as a question or a complaint, are 40p for each minute started, rising to 50p after 5 minutes. Texts to your customers are 8p per text segment.

The order charge is a flat amount, not a share of your food bill.
